The Boberg XR9 - The world's most powerful 9mm pocket-sized pistol.

The world's most powerful 9mm pocket-sized pistol.

Summary

Basically, the XR9 is a pocket pistol with a full length barrel, having the magazine located directly under the chamber. The patent-pending feed mechanism grabs a cartridge from the magazine and delivers it straight into the chamber. This allows the chamber clearance to be significantly less, causing less energy and noise to blast out the back. With this combination, kinetic energy is maximized, and in many cases will exceed the energy produced in full-sized pistols.

Interesting. But, watch the fingers on that support hand with the "Shorty" (OUCH)... :bear_rolleyes:

Seems gimmicky.

GREAT! I've always worried about all that noise blasting out the back of my pistols. This looks like the solution to my problem.:sarc:

If you look at the bullet penetration pictures on their website (9mm FMJ slug penetration through birch plywood), their pistol does seem to offer a very slight increase in penetration vs a Kahr PM9 (a shorty 9mm pistol).

It is a neat marketing "spin", but doesn't really seem all that great.

Technically it's impressive, but I'm not sure how much real-world use it will matter.

Pocket pistols are only good for fairly close-range shots anyway, just because of the short sight radius. The fact that they shoot lower-power (than a longer barrel firing the same ammo would be) kinda doesn't matter.

For 1000 bucks, some very fine compact 9mm's can be had of the same size and weight.

I have the lightest .357 in the world and it snaps my wrist I have to
shoot 38 +p instead of the .357

Call me dense, but I'm not sure exactly what this pistol does that existing designs don't already do.

I guess it'll appeal to collectors and to those who have to have the latest and greatest toy.

I'll stick with my Glock 19 and Dan Wesson Commander Classic Bobtail for now.

It employs a feeding mechanism that has not stood the test of time and field abuse. This special mechanism practically guarantees FTF and serious jamming in that event due to some out of spec round. When this mechanism goes kaput due to all the additional untested pieces you get to pay high dollars for repair because it is a unique part most gunsmiths have not seen or understand and only one company supplies the replacements.
Get it now?

It is a very interesting concept. A full length barrel will allow the pistol to engage targets further out that a normal service pistol can, and increases accuracy. The balance of the weapon will also affect this for snap-shots that may not use the sights. ie. the "pointability" of the weapon when under pressure, something the Glock is very good at if you have the right sized hands.

Bill843 you are right about what pocket pistols are about, this does however allow the user to hit things further away, making it a more flexible platform. The downside is the unique design.

I agree partly about the feed mechanism, it is an unknown, and only that company and perhaps a select few distributors may be able to support it. That's how new ideas begin however. We would need to see some reliability stats, say 10,000 rounds fired through a unit on a hard-stand using consumer ammo and the number/type of jams that occur, and testing some to destruction. That's how the Glock became what it is, a highly reliable service pistol that to the user can be thought of as a revolver in terms of safety, it was tested over and over again and problems rectified.

It's penetration power matches that of a SIG P226. That is significant.
